Question:Output of Ball Mill
Detail: dear sir, i am currently a final year student in University of Science Malaysia. As taking my design course, i was requested to design a small metal powder production plant, with production rate 20kg/hr and final product; 10micron metal powder. i would like to install two series ball milling in my plant, by wonder how effecient is the ball mill is, is there any calculation to determine the product of the ball mill, i.e a coarse particle input, how fine is the output particle is. Hope Sir can enlighten me. Thanks.

Dear weychien:

Input ore > black box efficiency > output.

But to put numbers to the efficiency factor is not so easy. Different products react differently. Several factors influence the efficiency of ball mill grinding. The pulp density within the mill should be as high as possible consistent with ease of flow through the mill. It is essential that the balls are coated with a layer of pulp. Too dilute a pulp increases metal to metal contact - which increased steel wear and reduces efficiency.

Most do a bench test rather than relying on some theoretical model.
